House Cleansing's / Blessings

Here at IGD you will find my personal method of House Cleansing / Blessings that have worked for me in the past. You can choose to try and do the house cleansing / blessing on your own, following the steps below. We believe in helping the spirits who can not cross over by showing them the way. Remember, most of these are lost souls who do not choose to remain here, but some spirits do wish so. If you need any help or assistance, or just have questions, please feel free to contact us. Thank you!

House Blessing
Adapted from Catholic Household Blessings and Prayers
Bishop's Committee on the Liturgy
National Conference of Catholic Bishops © 1988, pp. 297-301

Light the Smudge Stick and make sure it is smoldering heavily and say the following:
"Peace be with this house and with all who live here. Blessed be the name of the Lord"

All respond: Amen.

The leader / smugger may use these or similar words to Cleanse and Bless the house or building while making sure to walk around and get the smoke from the smudge stick in every corner, nook, and cranny... This is a must!
Go from room to room, offering prayers of intercession and sprinkling holy water, if desired. Some of the following prayers may be used.

At the entrance: O God, protect our going out and our coming in; Let us share the hospitality of this home with all who visit us, that those who enter here may know your love and peace.
Grant this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

In the living room: O God, give your blessings to all who share this room, that we may be knit together in companionship.
Grant this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

In the kitchen: O God, you fill the hungry with good things. Send your blessing on us, as we work in this kitchen, and make us ever thankful for our daily bread.
Grant this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

In the dining room: Blessed are you, Lord of heaven and earth, for you give us food and drink to sustain our lives and make our hearts glad. Help us to be grateful for all your mercies, and mindful of the needs of others.
Grant this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

In the bedrooms: Protect us, Lord, as we stay awake; watch over us as we sleep, that awake we may keep watch with Christ, and asleep, we may rest in his peace.
Grant this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

In the bathroom: Blessed are you, Lord of heaven and earth. You formed us in wisdom and love. Refresh us in body and in spirit, and keep us in good health that we might serve you.
Grant this through Christ our Lord
Amen.

All return to the starting place. A cross or icon is kissed by each person, and then put in a permanent place of honor. A candle may be lighted before it.
All recite the Lord's Prayer.

The Leader speaks the Prayer of Blessing:
Be our shelter, Lord, when we are at home, our companion when we are away,
and our welcome guest when we return. and at last receive us into the dwelling place
you have prepared for us in your Father's house, where you live for ever and ever.
Amen.

All make the sign of the cross as the leader concludes:
May the peace of Christ rule in our hearts, and may the word of Christ in all its richness
dwell in us, so that whatever we do in word and in work, we will do in the name of the Lord.
Amen.

THE LORDS PRAYER is also HIGHLY recommended.
Our Father, which art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done,
in earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive them that trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever.
Amen.

  1. You also need Psalm 23, if your going to go the Catholic route.

    Also a note on sage. (and most people mess this up bad), Just burning the sage wont do it. There is an actual ritual involved to it. My suggestion is research the Lakota Suix, anipi (sp) ceremony. The key to truly cleansing a space is to actually follow the real tribal ritual as close as you can. You can use the faiths of other cultures and even holy words of power, thats completely acceptable, as every tribe had their own way to do things. But the actual physical action is very very very specific.

    In short, you start on the Bottom floor of the house, or Sacred space, ground level, on the southern most wall. You Light the sage, preferably anointed with some kind of cleansing oil. I prefer to use clove oil, Easy to get, common place, and works wonders. However Mugwort works as well, not to mention Pine, Peppermint,, or even simply burning Nag Champa works as well. You must let the sage burn naturally while performing the ritual, only to relight it when it burns out. You also must place it on a bowl, shell, or natural material flat surface of some kind. You then lightly blow onto it, into the direction of the area your cleansing. You start on the bottom of the wall, and work around the edge of the wall in a clockwise fashion, going around each edge of the wall. You then continue this pattern around the entire house, again in a clockwise pattern. Going up one side, across the top, down the other side, alone the bottom. You must continue along the wall to each door and window doing the same clockwise pattern, around the house, until you reach the West wall. At the West wall, you face the west, and you speak to all spirits in the room. You make it clear that you are giving them time to leave (Designate a set amount of time, an hour, day, week, what have you). You also inform them what spirits are welcome, If any, and what is allowed in your home. What you want in your home, and what is not allowed in your home. When that time limit is up, you then finish the west wall, following the clockwise pattern, and then continue to the south again. Then after that is done, you do one spiralling circle around the house starting from the south, moving around the corners of the house, spinning in, towards the center of the house. Here You pray to "God", the great spirit, you name it, what ever your comfortable with. You place a blessing in your faiths name, and request that the spirits of the ancestors watch over your home and protect those who are welcome in this sacred space.

    Now, if you have multiple floors, you do not go to those floors, until you can reach them naturally through the cycle. If the stairs up or down, are on the west all, you only deal with that floor, when you reach its wall. If both are on the same wall, You first attend to the top floor, and again cycle every room and every space, every closet, ever area you can reach. You do not have to go into the attic, if you dont want to. However, It does help, greatly, if you can. Any space that people frequent, you must go into and cleanse. pure and simple. Also, letting the smoke blow into vent system, or air intake is also key. Many people over look this very common space. Things love to hide in there. Cleanse it. Once you are done with the top, work the bottom, same manor, and return back to the center again. When your done, step outside, and do a lap around the outside of residence, and once again along the edge of the property. The important thing here is to turn your living space into sacred space.

  2. Last note on this topic, during the entire process you must keep my mind focused on your intend, Speaking calmly, and directly. I find listening to positive music helps a great deal. No matter what happens, and trust me, when you move ghost's out forcefully, something always does. You can not flinch, you can not let them get to you. You must be strong in your faith, what ever that faith might be. The goal here is to tell an entity that it does not belong in your home. Thus you have to remind it, that you are the living, and that this space is yours. You must be string in your conviction, and be willing to use the power words of your faith to calmly push things out. Hence why Psalm 23, is very effective for this purpose. Other psalms work very well, but over all 23, is actually intended for this purpose.
